Web-to-print improvement needed says survey

Results suggest there are still issues with web-to-print systems and further support is required by users

Web-to-print provider Vpress and the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) have released the findings of a survey about web-to-print—with the results suggesting more improvement is needed in the utilisation of the technology.

The aim of the study, named ‘The Big Chat’, was to find out what companies thought about the technology, if it was helping to increase business at all and how they thought it could be improved upon further to better its impact.

Responses suggested while the general consensus is that web-to-print is important, many flounder when it comes to utilising it adequately—with the blame lying with web-to-print providers. This partnered with the response that two thirds of web-to-print users felt they were not effectively selling the benefits of web-to-print to their end users.

In addition, results also showed that users of web-to-print reported only 10 percent of business as going through the system—but did also predict this would rise to 50 percent over the next two years.

In response, Vpress has suggested the results show that more help and training is needed if a company is to utilise a web-to-print system effectively, explaining the key in getting ‘real return on investment’ lies in the support and education a web-to-print providers offers to customers.

From the response to the survey, it is seems that more development on web-to-print is needed and providers need to offer further assistance to clients if they are to use this technology to the best of its ability.
