Hot on the heels of the release of Roland DG's VersaExpress RF-640, Caldera has rolled out a set of drivers to support the printer.

The new RF-640 drivers are compatible with both eco-solvent and water-based inks, offering a wide range of applications, including vinyl graphics, banners, billboards and back-lit posters.

Print houses can also take full advantage of the RF-640's 1.6m roll-to-roll throughput speeds and broad colour range, while colour management and other RIP data is translated seamlessly to the machine.

The RF640-ESOL driver is suitable for Roland Eco-Sol Max2 inks and can enable the machine's top speed of 48.5sq m per hour in draft mode. The RF640-WBASE-4C, meanwhile is a fast-four driver which helps output water-based inks at up to 56.8sq m per hour.

The drivers have been designed to be fully compatible with Macs, in response to the rise in the number of Roland users using Apple devices to control print engines.

"The Roland VersaExpress RF-640 is a powerful machine that can truly benefit from an equally powerful RIP engine," states Frédéric Soulier, chief technology officer, at Caldera. "This is sure to be a popular model amongst Roland users, both new and old, and we anticipate that Caldera's support for it will be similarly appealing."
