Brookings, South Dakota-based Daktronics, a manufacturer of EMC and electronic display systems of all types, announces that it has been selected by Auburn University to design, manufacture and install what it says will be the largest LED display screen in college football.

Daktronics says the video screen will be approximately 10,800 square feet and will be paired with the company’s control system and a custom audio system. The new display will be comprised of nearly 9 million LED lights and will measure approximately 57' x 190', a substantial increase from the stadium’s current 30’ x 74’ LED display board.

“We are excited to have partnered with Daktronics in building the largest LED video display in college football,” says Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs. “There is no better place in the country like Jordan-Hare Stadium to watch a football game, and this dynamic board will revolutionize the game-day experience and make it even better.”

Daktronics says the new display will employ the latest technology, including variable content zoning which allows for one large image to be shown on the entire screen, or for multiple different zones in the screen to show any combination of content simultaneously; including live video, instant replays, scoring and statistics, graphic animations, sponsor messages and more.

The images will be controlled by Daktronics’ Show Control system, which combines display control software with video processing, data integration and playback hardware in one user-friendly package.

“It’s exciting to continue our long-standing relationship with Auburn University by providing them with this awe-inspiring new video display,” says Daktronics CEO Reece Kurtenbach. “The capabilities provided by a display of this size, matched with Daktronics’ control system, allows the university to get really creative when planning their game-day entertainment. We’re looking forward to seeing the overall presentation when the new system is fired up for the first game.”

The new Daktronics audio system being installed with main screen will be 33’ x 70’—about the same size as the sadium's previous entire display screen.

Along with the main video display, which will be erected where the old one was—above the south end zone of the stadium—two new LED ribbon displays will be installed along the seating fascia of the stadium. At about 3?' x 435', and featuring a 15HD pixel layout, these ribbon screens will work in conjunction with the main display screen. And all of them will have what Daktronics calls “wide angle visibility.”

Built in 1939, Jordan-Hare Stadium is the 10th-largest on-campus college stadium in the country. With a seating capacity of 87,451, on game days it becomes the equivalent of being the fifth-largest city in Alabama.
