Korea-based InkTec Corp., which makes inks for wide-format printers and sells its own UV printers, debuted the company’s first-ever LED printer at the recent FESPA show in Amsterdam: the Jetrix LX5.

The LX5 is the latest generation of printer in InkTek’s Jetrix portfolio and the first in a series of LED printers the company plans to launch. It says the LX5 has a printing speed of up to 39 square meters an hour (approximately 128 square feet) and is equipped with six picolitre Konica Minolta print heads.

“It’s quite exciting because we have been developing the ink technology ourselves, and it’s taken quite a long time—over a year in development,” says head of national sales Ben Woodruff. “We’ve made somewhere in the region of 50 different ink formulations in order to get it right, so it’s exciting that it has now materialized and is up and running. …

“We decided to develop an LED printer as it is more environmentally-friendly, a lot of customers are speaking to us about LED and we felt that while there are benefits of both technologies, traditional UV and LED lamps—if we offer both—can provide the best of both worlds and tailor a solution to what each individual customer needs.”
